Development Assistants issue close to being resolved
View(s):Education Minister Susil Premajayantha has said the Ministry is nearing reaching an agreement to resolve a deadlock over the appointment of Development Assistants as teachers.
The delay in appointing 22,000 teachers was due to four parties going to courts over the issue, he said.
“We are now in the process to settle the issue on a conditional basis. There has been general agreement on the conditions. The conditions need to be approved by the Ministry and sent back to courts,” Minister Premajayantha recently told Parliament.
He was responding to a question raised by SJB Matale District MP Rohini Kumari Kawairatna.
The Cabinet decision needs to get the approval of the Public Service Commission before being sent back to court.
“The case got postponed until September 4. We are confident that we can resolve the matter in courts. The Cabinet paper has been finalised and will be ready to be submitted to courts, he added. -RC
