Five Malaysian universities hold job fair to attract students

Representatives from five Malaysian universities arrived in Sri Lanka to promote their courses and attract students for higher education.

Representatives from Asia Pacific University, Nilai University, Raffles University, Segi University, and the University of CyberJaya are in Sri Lanka, offering a variety of courses, including medicine, engineering, IT, and science.

Sri Lanka ranks among the top 10 countries with the highest number of applications to study in Malaysia, according to Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS).

EMGS organised a ‘Study in Malaysia Education Fair’ in Negombo, Colombo, and Kandy from August 12-15, with Mway Pvt Ltd as the local event partner.

After the economic and foreign exchange crisis in 2022,
Sri Lanka has been exploring the possibility of becoming a regional hub for education to reduce the outflow of foreign exchange as students pursue higher education abroad.

The country spends approximately USD 3 billion annually on overseas education.

To address this issue,
Sri Lanka is working on expanding its higher education system by establishing new universities in the Kurunegala and Batticaloa districts, and granting national status to private institutions including the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) and Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT).

The government is also focusing on advancing education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields and facilitating the establishment of foreign branch universities. (NA)
