Political activist arrested for alleged misconduct at EC office gets bail
View(s):A Ruhunu Janatha Party member arrested for allegedly interrupting the duties of Election Commission officials was released on bail by Colombo’s Additional Magistrate Bandara Illangasinghe.
The suspect, Chathuranga Chandimal, was released on Rs 7,500 cash bail and a surety bail of Rs 500,000.His lawyer told the court that he had a pass to enter the Election Commission office in Rajagiriya and, therefore, he could not be charged with illegal entry. The lawyer pleaded that the suspect be released on bail.
In granting bail, the additional magistrate ordered the suspect to cooperate with the investigations and allow the police to examine his mobile phone and laptop.
