The Treasury is to set aside Rs 185 billion required for a proposed salary increase for public sector employees and payment of anomalies through the next year’s budget, a senior official said.

He said the Treasury was making provisions for the allocations, which would be included in the budget proposals.

The proposed increase was conveyed to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in a similar manner as the previous proposal of Rs 10,000 was discussed with the IMF, the official added.

He said that taking into consideration the improvement in achieving revenue targets, the proposed increases could be granted.

Meanwhile, Finance State Minister Shehan Semasinghe told the Sunday Times that in view of the presidential election, the IMF review, due later this year, for the next tranche had been put on hold.

The Sunday Times learns that with the passage of the next staff-level agreement, Sri Lanka is expecting a facility of US$350 million.
