Matale and Puttalam win Inter-District Hockey titles

Nipuni Ishara of Puttalam - the Best Girls Player
Matale Schools Golds and Puttalam Schools lifted the boys and girls hockey titles respectively at the 57th Inter-District Combined Schools Under-20 Hockey Championships 2024 held at the Edward Park Hockey Ground in Matale. The four-day tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association (SLSHA), attracted a total of 21 teams, 13 boys and eight girls from across the island.
Matale Golds came out victorious with a 4-2 win over Colombo Reds in the boys final while Puttalam girls got the better of Matale lasses by 3-1 in their final. Kandy Blues annexed the boys runners-up position defeating Galle Schools by 2-0 in the Boy’s Playoff while Colombo Reds had the consolation of winning the girls runners-up position beating Galle by 2-1.
Hansika Ratnayake of the champion Matale Golds team was adjudged the Best Boys Player while his team mate Dushan Gunawardane was named the Up and Coming Player. The Best Goalkeeper award in the boys segment went to Senithu Linal Jayasighe of Colombo Reds.
Nipuni Ishara of Puttalam claimed the Best Girls Player while her team mate Tharushika Subasinghe earned the Up and Coming Player award. Vishmi Ganasundara of Matale Golds won the Best Goalkeeper award.
