In a significant stride toward bolstering Sri Lanka’s infrastructure and renewable energy capabilities, LTL Holding Ltd’s heavy Engineering arm has completed the Fabrication, Galvanizing, Painting (Duplex Coating), and Installation of six Met Masts.

The primary objective of these towering Met Masts is to gather crucial and comprehensive data on wind speed, direction, and other significant climatic factors that are essential for accurately assessing the viability and long-term sustainability of wind energy projects in the region.

This has enabled the company to expand its services, which now include Steel Fabrication, Hot-Dip Galvanizing, Thermal Spray Metallising, and Specialised Painting/Duplex Coating, an LTL official said noting that, LTL has played a pivotal role in many of Sri Lanka’s key infrastructure projects.

“The company was entrusted with delivering a comprehensive turnkey solution that encompassed every critical stage of the project—from meticulous design and precision fabrication to the challenging final installation process. This valuable data will play a critical role in helping the government, alongside private sector stakeholders, make well-informed and strategic decisions about future wind power installations, thereby significantly contributing to the country’s ambitious renewable energy goals.”

The Met Masts were fabricated using the highest quality steel, ensuring their durability in the challenging coastal and inland climates of Sri Lanka.

As a key component of Sri Lanka’s 2030 renewable energy plan—which ambitiously aims to generate 70 per cent of the country’s energy from sustainable, renewable sources—these Met Masts will be instrumental in evaluating and effectively harnessing wind energy across the island, the official said.

By providing precise and accurate data on wind patterns, speeds, directions, and other critical environmental conditions, the Masts will significantly help guide the strategic development of wind power projects throughout the country, he added.

LTL’s ability to deliver high-quality, reliable infrastructure solutions will likely influence future government and private sector decisions regarding energy projects.

“As Sri Lanka continues to pursue its ambitious energy targets, LTL is well-positioned to play a central role in the country`s transition to a more sustainable energy future. LTL’s involvement in the Met Masts project is a testament to the company’s ongoing commitment to contributing to Sri Lanka’s development. The completion of these Met Masts not only supports the immediate goal of expanding wind energy capacity but also sets a precedent for future infrastructure projects that will be essential as the country works toward its 2030 energy goals, the official further said.
