Cluster school system to share teacher and physical resources
View(s):As part of education reforms, the Ministry plans to introduce a cluster school system to all schools across the country.
The country’s 10,026 schools will be assigned to 1,250 clusters, according to Education Minister Susil Premajayantha.
The main objective of the system is to effectively make use of human and physical resources available in schools, the Minister explained.
The lead school heading the cluster will be fully-equipped with laboratory facilities, computers, sports equipment, and will be provided with fibre optic facilities enabling them to share some of the facilities with the schools coming under the lead school.
Minister Premajayantha said that if a school under the lead school requires facilities for printing of question papers, the facility would be provided through the lead school.
If the schools requires the services of teachers, arrangements could be made by the lead school or other schools under the system to provide the services of teachers on a temporary basis.
A supervision team will be appointed to oversee the lead school and the cluster schools. They will visit a school every month.
In addition, the principal of the lead school will be the head of a school board while the other principals will be members of the board. They will be able to coordinate with the Ministry for further assistance to the respective schools.
The cluster schools will work according to a policy plan.
