Manifestos of the leading presidential candidates will be rolled out from tomorrow, starting with the National People’s Power.

NPP presidential candidate, Anura Kumara Dissanayake will launch the party manifesto at a hotel event in Thalawathugoda, under the theme ‘Pohosath Ratak, Lassana Jeewithayak’ (A rich country and a good life) and will focus on 39 points (see separate article).

Independent candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe is to launch his manifesto at the end of the month.

Adviser to the president, Ashu Marasinghe said the manifesto outlines plans on economic recovery, which is an extension of a two year programme of the president to secure the economy.

The manifesto would focus on reducing taxes, strengthening the education sector and introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the education sector.

The SJB is due to launch its manifesto on August 29.

SJB General Secretary, Ranjith Madduma Bandara said the manifesto would look into 27 sectors, including education, health, plantation, industry, fisheries and social welfare.

Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said the party’s manifesto will be launched in the first week of September.

“Our manifesto will cover all aspects such as reducing the cost of living, and securing a better future, while protecting national assets. As our candidate is a youth we have features to attract the youth,’’ he said.

Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said he launched his manifesto last Sunday covering all sectors.

His manifesto suggests a tax policy which would remain unchanged for five to 10 years. This would help to improve a production based economy.

Other aspects of his manifesto include lowering the use of fossil fuels, fuel promoting solar power, a national health policy, and educational reforms. He also proposes to convert the legislature into a bicameral system and establish a senate (supreme body).

Sarwa Jana Balaya candidate Dilith Jayaweera will launch the final draft of his party’s manifesto shortly after having presented a first and second draft earlier for public views.

In contrast to other parties, Janaka Ratnayake, who is contesting under Eksath Podujana Pakshya, said he has addressed the burning issues through his manifesto on his website. It has action plans to create conditions where people could have three meals a day and buy 20 essential commodities at fixed and affordable prices for five years.
