On Saturday, August 31, the MJF Charitable Foundation Centre in Moratuwa will hold the People’s Market.

Dedicated to supporting local entrepreneurs and fostering community growth since its inception in 2021, the People’s Market was created as a platform to boost small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has since evolved into a thriving ecosystem that empowers small businesses and individuals.

The People’s Market has been a launchpad for over 150 entrepreneurs, including women, youth and individuals with disabilities. Through its markets in Colombo, Moratuwa and Weligama, the initiative is fostering a strong community of passionate small business owners.

Held three to four times a year, the market offers a diverse range of goods and experiences. From traditional spices to artisanal products, food trucks to home-grown fresh produce, there’s much to discover. It’s a fun-filled atmosphere with a dedicated children’s play area, live music and an open mic stage.

“Through programmes like The People’s Market, we are committed to empowering local businesses and creating a positive impact on the Sri Lankan economy,” said S. Kamalanathan, Manager- Operations, MJF Charitable Foundation.

An initiative by the MJF Charitable Foundation as part of their commitment towards supporting entrepreneurship and empowering men, women, youth and persons with disabilities from low-income backgrounds, 15% pre-tax profits from the MJF Group are directed towards supporting humanitarian and conservation efforts.

The People’s Market takes place on August 31 at the MJF Charitable Centre, Moratuwa from 4 p.m. to 10.30 p.m. For more details check out https://www.facebook.com/MJFCF/ and https://www.instagram.com/mjffoundation/.
