Sri Lanka to be represented by 12 juniors at World U-20 Athletic Championship

The Sri Lanka junior athletes who are set to represent Sri Lanka at the upcoming World Athletics U-20 Championship in Lima, Peru, will be represented by 12 athletes – 10 boys and two girls – at the world event which will be held from August 27 to 31.

Sri Lanka will be led by Meron Wijesinghe, who will compete in the Men’s 100m event as well as the Men’s 4x100m Relay event, alongside Vidusha Indushan, Kaushal Thamel, Dineth Weeraratne and Ayesh Mihiranga. Vidusha and Kaushal will also turn out in the Men’s 200m event while Dineth will be the second Sri Lankan sprinter in action in the Men’s 100m event besides skipper Meron.

Madushani Herath is set to compete in the Women’s Long Jump as well as Women’s Triple Jump events while Jithma Wijesinghe will appear in the Women’s 400m event.

Among other track and field athletes who will be in action are Ayomal Akalanka (Men’s 400m Hurdles), Tharusha Mendis (Men’s High Jump), Sandun Kosala (Men’s 110m Hurdles), Lesandu Arthavidu (Men’s High Jump) and Jathya Kirulu (Men’s 400m). The squad will be accompanied by Badra Gunawardana and Krishantha Kumara, as Coaches, Chandana Ekanayake as Manager and Dhammika Kulatunga as the Lady Chaperon.

Sri Lankan athletes will be among a total of 897 competitors representing a total of 114 countries, including teams from Authorised Neutral Athletes and Athlete Refugee Team. The team will leave the country to take part in the five-day international competition.
