Wesley win Sports Fiesta U-16 rugby title
View(s):Wesley College beat Isipathana College 15-0 to secure the Schools U-16 10-a-side Rugby title of the Sri Lanka Sports Fiesta 2024 played for the Air Force Commanders Cup Championship last weekend at the Racecourse ground in Colombo. Mohammed Fawaz was outstanding as he scored two quick tries to give Wesley a comfortable 10-0 lead at half time. Ehren Ali sealed the deal with another try in a dying moments of the game to seal the deal with a 15-0 win that ensured Wesley the title.
Wesley beat St. Thomas’ Prep College 25-0 and followed it up with a comprehensive 17-0 win against St. Peter’s College in the first round. In the second round Wesley beat Vidyartha College by 28-5 and Zahira College 10-5 after a close contest.
Led by Shifaan Inthikab, the champion Wesley College Under-16 rugby team included Manuga Jayaweera, Liam Onaziz, Senuth Karunawansha, Hivin Uthmika, Dinaru Dahamyuth, Ayaan Hussain, Ehren Ali, Mohammed Fawaz, Nepul Kularathna, Raashid Asif, Jonathan Wijayasinghe, Akesh Rayan, Vinai Rishikesh and Yoosuf Rushan.
The team is coached by Lasitha Randeera de Silva and W.S. Randima Fernando with the teacher-in-charge Pahan Mendis playing a pivotal role in shaping the young team to become champions of the future.
