Scholarships for Japanese Master’s programmes

The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS) is offering Master’s degree scholarships for Lankans to study in Japan.

The scholarships are in public policy studies, economics, and urban and regional development.

Meiji University and International University of Japan would be providing public policy studies respectively, and degrees in Master of Public Policy, Master of Art in Public Management and Master of Arts in Public Policy. There are two slots available in each university.

The international Christian University, Hiroshima University, Nagoya University, International University of Japan would be providing economic studies and would provide Master’s degrees such as Master of Arts in Public Economics, Master of Philosophy, Economics, Business Administration, Internal Corporation Studies, Master of Arts in International Development and Master of Business Administration. There are two slots available in four universities.

The University of Tsukuba and the University of Tokyo would facilitate urban and regional development studies by offering degrees in Master of Environmental Sciences and Master of Engineering.

The project’s objective is to support human resource development in
Sri Lanka by targeting young government officials who are expected to be leaders of the country, and to engage in formulating and implementing social and economic development policies after their return.

The JDS also expects fellows who engage in the study in Japan to contribute to expanded and enhanced bilateral relations.

The persons who are eligible for the study in Japan should be citizens of
Sri Lanka below the age of 40 years as of April 1, 2025, and should be fluent in both spoken and written English.

The applicant also should possess a Bachelor’s Degree (undergraduate level of education), “Executives/senior executives”, mentioned in public administration circular No 06/ 2006, annexure II. Semi-government staff such as BOI, NBRO, CEA, NWSDB, WMA too are eligible to apply under limited components.

Applicants are expected to have special interest in studying in Japan, as well as motivation to utilise their experience and human network developed through JDS in their career.

The applicant’s air fare for one round trip between Sri Lanka and Japan, monthly living allowance, full tuition fee, and accepting university and other designated allowances (buying books, seminar attendance, overseas travel insurance) would be provided.

The applicants could obtain the application and other designated forms via JDS website http:// JDS – scholarship.org.

The application closing date is fixed on Friday, November 1.

Online promotion seminars are also held on English, Sinhala and Tamil mediums from August 30, September 6, September 13, September 27, and October 11.
