University of Peradeniya concludes international research symposium

The University of Peradeniya was presented with a Rs 5 million research grant by Professor Lakshman Samaranayake, at the two-day International Research Symposium and Exposition (iPurse 2024) held at the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Science auditorium on August 29 and 30.
The theme of the symposium was ‘A resilient and sustainable Sri Lanka weaving together diverse threads.’ Professor Samaranayake was the chief guest at the event. The Guest of honour was Dr Sujata Gupta, Director, Energy Sector at the Asian Development Bank.
The University promotes sustainable practices through research, university initiative and partnerships where students and staff collaborate to create positive changes and build a future based on shared values, Vice Chancellor Professor Terrance Madhujith said.
Director of the University Research Council Professor Janaka Ekanayake , said that URC has introduced two new award schemes, the first acknowledges researchers who have produced notable research outputs and outcomes in 2023, while the second honors those who have successfully secured research funding from various national or international funding bodies.
‘Professor Lakshman Samaranayake Research Excellency’ was awarded to Professor Athula Ekanayake, Professor Dilan Amila Satharasinghe, and to Professor M D M Lalani Damayanthi Kumari Yatawara.
