The Colombo Wind Orchestra’s second concert for the year -  ‘Movie Extravaganza’ will be on Saturday, September 7 at 7 p.m. at the Bishop’s College Auditorium.

Conducted by Maestro Keiko Kobayashi, the concert will feature some remarkable pieces    written especially for wind orchestra formations.

One of the highlights of this much awaited concert will be the ‘The Curse of the Black Pearl’ from the symphonic suite ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ composed by Klaus Badelt.

The amazing works of John Williams will also be featured – the Colombo Wind Orchestra will be playing a  selection from the ‘Indiana Jones’ series as well as ‘The Empire Strikes Back’, representing the end titles from Star Wars.

A range of diverse wind instruments

Danny Elfman’s film score is also in the programme with themes from ‘Beetlejuice’ and ‘Spider-Man’ to mention just a few, along with other surprises.

Tokyo-born conductor Keiko Kobayashi is no stranger to Sri Lankan audiences having been a guest conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of
Sri Lanka every year since 2008. She has conducted the Colombo Wind Orchestra (CWO) since its inception in 2012. Ms. Kobayashi was the Vice Conductor of the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra (TKWO) from 2004 until 2006 and has released DVDs and CDs with the TKWO and others.

The Colombo Wind Orchestra formed by the wind players of the Symphony      Orchestra of Sri Lanka, today has more than 50 players representing the entire range of wind instruments from the piccolo, flute through oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba and saxophone, in addition to percussion, double bass and keyboard. The diversity of these instruments creates a truly colourful and enjoyable musical experience!

The Colombo Wind Orchestra also performs outreach concerts in other parts of the country with their repertoire consisting of classical western music, pop, film music, jazz as well as Sinhala songs.

Tickets for ‘Movie Extravaganza’ are priced at Rs. 5000, Rs. 4000, Rs. 3000, Rs. 2000 (reserved) and Balcony Rs. 1500
