Al-Hamra MV emerge champions

One of the oldest Muslim schools in
Sri Lanka, Al-Hamra Maha Vidyalaya in Dharga Town, Aluthgama, emerged the champions of the Inter-School Under-16 Football Knockout Tournament of Kalutara District.

During the qualifying rounds, they beat Zahira College Dharga Town and Ilma International School to set up a semi-final clash against Holy Cross College, Kalutara, whom they beat comfortably to reach the final. In the final Al-Hamra MV beat Muslim Central College, Kalutara to emerge champions.

The significant fact of the wins recorded by Al-Hamra MV were that they managed to finish all first round and semi-final matches, and the final with scorelines of nil-all. They won all matches through penalty shoot-outs. The entire tournament was played at the Vernon Fernando Stadium in Kalutara.

By virtue Al-Hamra MV advanced to the next stage, the District level tournament. They will meet the champion of Colombo or Gampaha district in the playoff in Colombo.
