All-round Asalanka leads Colombo
Captain Charith Asalanka smashed a quick-fire century–111 off 75 balls and took two wickets with his off-spins as Team Colombo registered a comfortable 45-run win over Team Dambulla in their National Super League Limited Over match played at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday. Asalanka’s ton, which included 11 boundaries and four sixes, powered Colombo to an imposing 255 for 7 in 38 overs, after morning showers resulted a delayed start.
Chasing the target, Dambulla, despite an unbeaten 95 off 73 balls (10 boundaries and 3 sixes) from Ravindu Fernando, were bowled out for 211 runs with two overs to spare. Pramod Madushan (3 for 45), Dilum Sudeera 3 for 50) and Asalanka (2 for 16) did the damage with the ball to wrap for the win.
Meanwhile the match between Team Jaffna and Team Kandy ended in a no result due to bad weather at Sooriyawewa. In a 39-over match, Kandy reached a modest total of 172 for 4 but Jaffna’s chase was reduced to 15 overs when heavens came down to end the proceedings.
