Prince of Wales College booked their berth to the semi-final of the Dialog Premier Trophy Knockout Tournament with a thrilling 13-12 win over St. Benedict’s College in the quarter-final encounter played at Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday. This match preceded the encounter between S. Thomas’ and Zahira.

In a closely contested game, the Cambrians hanged on to a slender 3-0 lead at the breather and made up their points through a converted try and two penalties while the Bens got their points through two tries and a conversion.

The Bens dominated the second half and led the game 12-3 with four minutes away from the long whistle, but the Cambrians made a brilliant comeback to score from a converted try and forced their opponents to concede a last minute penalty, which sealed the game in their favour.

The semi-final line up for the Premier Trophy will be Mahanama College against Piliyandala Central College on September 7 and Ananda College against Prince of Wales College on September 8 with both the matches scheduled to be kicked off at the Royal Sports Complex 2:00pm prior to the President’s Trophy encounters.
