Sri Lankan divers impress with 13 medals in Singapore
Sri Lanka’s diving team made an impressive mark at the 14th Singapore National Diving Championship, securing a total of 13 medals by the end of the second day of the three-day competition at the OCBC Aquatic Centre in Singapore yesterday.
The island nation has won two gold medals, five silver medals, and six bronze medals so far. The first gold medal for Sri Lanka was claimed by Raphail Jayaweera of Royal College in the Group ‘C’ Boys 3 Metre Springboard event. Sri Lanka dominated this event, with Shushen Wijesinghe taking the silver medal and Giyanka Wickramasinghe winning the bronze.
Sri Lanka’s medal journey began with team leader Venuka Kankanamge of Royal College, who secured a silver medal in the 1 Metre Springboard Open category. Following this, İImaya Perera of Bishop’s College won a bronze medal in the Group ‘A’ Girls 3 Metre Springboard event.
Royal College’s Ruel Wickramaratne added to the tally with a silver medal in the Group ‘B’ Platform event, while Mikhail Jayaweera of Colombo International School won the bronze in the same event. In the Group ‘B’ Girls Platform category, Yashoda Pilapitiya earned a silver medal, and Vinudi Kankanamge of Visakha Vidyalaya took home the bronze.
In the Group ‘C’ Platform event, Shushen Wijesinghe won the gold, with Thusith Liyanage earning the silver and Thasith Liyanage taking the bronze. The final medal of the day was a bronze, won by Ruel Wickramaratne in the 1 Metre Springboard Group ‘A’ Boys event. The championship ends today.
