Fifty leading and emerging contemporary artists will be part of the Udayshanth and Angelika Fernando Foundation’s third annual fundraiser – an online auction on September 12 at the Saskia Fernando Gallery with the funds raised going to the A4A Production Grant and the Indira Cancer Trust. For this year’s edition of the fundraiser, artists have interpreted a small canvas, similar to an A4A-sized paper.

The auction will be live online from September 12 – 15 and the works will be exhibited at Saskia Fernando Gallery for that duration.

The Udayshanth and Angelika Fernando Foundation is a non-profit organization established by Annika and Saskia Fernando, with a vision to support and assist projects focused on those affected by cancer, while also focusing on the sustainable development of the arts in Sri Lanka.

“As co-founder of the Udayshanth and Angelika Fernando Foundation we are honoured to be joining hands with the artist community and the Indira Cancer Trust for this third fundraiser. We hope to continue to build our efforts for fundraising for cancer as well as arts development work in the years to come,” Saskia said.

Indira Cancer Trust was founded in 2016 by former Speaker of Parliament, Karu Jayasuriya, following the loss of his daughter, Indira, to breast cancer. The Trust runs over 27 programmes including Sri Lanka’s first paediatric palliative care centre, ‘Suwa Arana – A Place for Healing,’ a wig manufacturing unit, and the country’s first cancer care helpline. These initiatives offer not only medical care but also emotional and psychological support to those affected by cancer.

In 2021, The Udayshanth and Angelika Fernando Foundation launched the Artists for Artists Production Fund (A4A), an initiative to ensure that art practitioners can continue to engage in creative pursuits irrespective of the limitations presented by the economic crisis in Sri Lanka.
