Foreign Secretary visits London Buddhist Vihara

Foreign Secretary Aruni Wijewardane visited the London Buddhist Vihara on Friday during her official visit to Britain for talks with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Commonwealth Secretariat.

Ms Wijewardane attended the evening religious ceremony by resident monks headed by Ven Bogoda Seelawimala Thera, Chief Sangha Nayake in the United Kingdom and addressed those present where she referred to the international outreach in spreading Buddhism by the founder of the temple, Anagarika Dharmapala, and spoke of the Sri Lanka Government’s policy that Buddhist values can have a positive impact on the current global landscape.

Later in the evening, Prof Thrishantha Nanayakkara, formerly of the University of Moratuwa now Professor in Robotics at Imperial College, London spoke on the subject of ‘Buddhism and Artificial Intelligence’. Members of the Sri Lanka High Commission in the UK also attended the evening’s programme.
