Gateway, a key force in Sri Lankan athletics
View(s):Gateway College continues to cement its reputation as a leader in Sri Lankan athletics, proudly announcing that four of its talented athletes have been selected for the Sri Lanka Junior Athletic squad. These athletes currently represent the nation at the South Asian Junior Athletic Championship 2024 in India.
Shanella Seneviratne, Dhanani Kodithuwakku, Cristiyan Dabarera, and Nehansa Paranaliyanage earned their places on the prestigious national team, a testament to the skill, dedication, and rigorous training fostered at Gateway College.
Each of these athletes has consistently delivered outstanding performances on the track and field.
Shanella Seneviratne was named the Best Female Athlete at ISAC 2024 and is currently recognised as the fastest junior female athlete in Sri Lanka this season. Dhanani Kodithuwakku has been a regular finalist in junior national 100m events and is ranked second among junior girls in the 100m sprint.
Cristiyan Dabarera, a rising star in discus throw, secured the gold medal at the Junior National Championship 2024, marking him as one of the country’s top young throwers. Nehansa Paranaliyanage, currently the fastest junior female hurdler in Sri Lanka, also clinched the champion title for her age group at ISAC 2024.
With these four athletes now representing Sri Lanka on the international stage, Gateway College has firmly positioned itself as a powerhouse in junior athletics. This remarkable achievement underscores the school’s unwavering commitment to developing exceptional athletic talent and highlights the strength of its sports programme.
