Scholarship exam paper leak investigation ongoing

Examinations Commissioner General Amith Jayasundara said the final decision on the issue surrounding the Grade 5 scholarship exam will be announced soon.

An investigation is underway to address the issues, and a decision on whether to proceed with exam paper evaluation will be taken on the outcomes of two separate investigations conducted by the Examinations Department and the CID.

Parents allege that at least 3 questions had been leaked prior to the exam, and are calling for a fresh exam to be conducted. Mr Jayasundara said no decision has been made to cancel the exam. If investigations confirm questions were leaked, the relevant questions will be disregarded during the marking process.

Education Ministry Secretary Thilaka Jayasundara urged parents to remain calm, saying the Department had conducted an investigation and handed over a report to the CID to conduct inquiries. Ms Jayasundara said the exam would be held again if it was proved that the paper had been leaked. Legal action would be taken against the ones who leaked the paper.

A chief invigilator and three others attached to Anuradhapura Ratmale Thissa Vidyalaya have been subjected to disciplinary action over the leaking of the paper. They had allegedly taken photos of the exam paper and sent the photographs to tuition masters via social media.

Parents of a school at Nikaweratiya have complained a teacher had given some of the exam questions to students who attended his tuition class and school students before the paper was released.
