Uniform material under Chinese grant to be distributed before new school year
View(s):Education Minister Dr Susil Premajayantha announced that the uniforms provided under the Chinese grant will be distributed prior to the start of the new school term on January 20.
Minister Premajayantha confirmed that the Chinese Government has scheduled the arrival of the first batch of uniforms on November 13, with subsequent batches arriving on November 21 and December 20.
Following discussions with the Chinese ambassador and relevant officials, the Government plans to prepare uniforms for 4.3 million schoolchildren and robes for 825 pirivenas as a grant for the upcoming school term in 2025.
He said that the provision of fully subsidised uniforms from China will save the country Rs 7 billion in 2025.
