Jane’s Addiction apologises to fans
The US rock band Jane’s Addiction has apologised to fans for the cancellation of their tour following an onstage fight between founder lead singer Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navaro on 13th September in Boston, New York. The band in a statement blamed Farrell’s mental health difficulties, adding it was no longer possible to continue their US tour. For his part Farrell apologised to his band mates on 16th September and fans for his inexcusable behaviour. Jane’s Addiction has been around since 1985 breaking up thrice before regrouping for the fourth time in 2008.
Miley Cyrus runs into trouble over ‘Flowers’
Miley Cyrus hit song ‘Flowers’ is at the centre of an alleged copy infringement by Tempo Music Investments on behalf of Bruno Mars hit song ‘When I Was Your Man’. Papers were filed in the Los Angeles federal court on 16th September. It claims ‘Flowers’ bears a strong likeness to ‘When I Was Your Man’. The co- writers of ’Flowers’ were named in the filing. ‘When I Was Your Man’ was a No. 1 song in the US. ‘Flowers’ was No. 1 in the US and more than a dozen other countries. It won a Grammy award in 2024.
Linkin Park make their way to the UK singles chart
Linkin Park made their way on to the UK singles chart with the highest entry of the week ‘The Emptiness Machine’ at No. 4. It is the US rock band’s sixth UK top 10 hit and the first with new members Emily Armstrong and Colin Brittain. The song is Linkin Park’s first UK top 10 hit in 23 years. Their last visit to the top 10 was in 2001, when the song ‘In The End’ peaked at No.8. ‘The Emptiness Machine’ is the lead single from the rock band’s forthcoming new album ‘From Zero’. Linkin Park meanwhile began their From Zero World Tour on 11th September in the US city of Los Angeles. The band will stage shows in London and Seoul this month while the final concert will be held on 11th November in Bogota, Colombia.
Guess’ by Charli XCX featuring Billie Eilish returns to the UK top 10 charts
The remix rendition of ‘Guess’ by Charli XCX featuring Billie Eilish made a return to the UK top 10 chart from 13 to land at No.8 this week. The song has been on the chart for six weeks. The remix was released on August 1 and samples Daft Punk’s ‘Technologic’. The video of the single has over 10,000 pairs of underwear floating around which were donated by the US charity – I Support Girls.
‘Somedays’ by Sonny Fodera, Jazzy and D.O.D climbs the UK charts
The song ‘Somedays’ by Sonny Fodera, Jazzy and D.O.D advanced to the UK top 10 singles from 15 to No.10 this week. The single is widely referred to as the summer hit of 2024. The song is the first top 10 hit for the Australian DJ and producer Sonny Fodera who is now based in London. The infectious house track has Irish singer and songwriter Jazzy on vocals while fellow Irish DJ and producer D.O.D is the co- producer. ‘Somedays’, has been rising on the singles chart for seven weeks. While the track is the first top 10 for Fodera and D.O.D, for Jazzy it is however her third appearance. She was the lead vocalist on the Belters ‘Make Me Feel Good’ in 2022 (No.4) and on her own, had the song ‘Giving Me’ (No. 3) also in 2022. Jazzy’s actual name is Yasmine Byrne while D.O.D’s actual name is Daniel O’Donnell.
