Kavija and Kenula drive Kingswood against Ananda after 17 years
View(s):Kavija Gamage, Sharada Jayarathne and Kenula Pihilianga helped Kingswood College achieve a first innings win after 17 long years against Ananda College in their Inter-School Under-19 Cricket encounter played at NCC ground last weekend.
Kavija, producing an important all-round performance, claimed three wickets, alongside Kenula, who claimed four scalps as Ananda College declared their first innings at 208 for the loss of 8 wickets. Ovin Perera top scored for Ananda with a knock of 46, while Danidu Sellaperuma (43), Mihin Munasinghe (34), Ashinsa Nainayake (26) and Kenul de Zoysa (25) chipped in with useful contributions.
Kavija then returned to stroke an unbeaten knock of 97 off 87 deliveries, inclusive of 12 boundaries and two sixes to help Kingswood post 253 in their reply. Chanul Kodituwakku made 45 and Yostah Abeykoon chipped in with 36. Sharada Jayarathne picked six wickets conceding 54 runs, but could not prevent Kingswood from recording a first innings win.
In their second essay Ananda were 84 for the loss of one wicket when stumps were drawn, with
Mihin Masinghe hitting 51 and Nethula Edirimanna remaining unbeaten on 23.
