Ashen Karunaratne claimed the bronze medal in the 61kg weight category at the Commonwealth Senior, Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championship 2024 held in Suva, Fiji from September 16 to 21. Ashen, a student of Wesley College, achieved a combined weight of 233kgs after lifting 103kgs in snatch and 130kgs in clean and jerk to finish overall third in the category.

Sri Lanka was represented by three lifters – bronze medal winner Ashen, who competed in the 61kgs category, Pasindu Malawana of University of Colombo, who competed in the 81kg category and Abidh Jameel of Trinity College, who competed in the 96kg category. The coach on tour was Danushka Nicholas. Over 300 competitors from 30 countries participated at the six-day championship held in Fiji.
