A delegation from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Dhanbad and University of Peradeniya offi-cials have discussed potential academic collaborations.

The visit of the IIT delegation was arranged by the university’s International Relations Office (InRO).

They were received by Vice Chancellor Prof W M T Madhujith. The delegation, which included Dr Tanmoy Maity, Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Associate Dean of International Relations and Alumni Affairs, and Mritunjay Sharma, Assistant Registrar of International Relations and Alumni Affairs, held an initial meeting at the Vice Chancellor’s office.

The meeting was attended by Prof C N R A Alles, Director of the InRO, and the InRO staff, where discus-sions focused on fostering academic cooperation between the two institutions.

Following this, the delegates visited the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Science. They met with Dr Jagath Gunathilake and explored collaborative opportunities in areas such as geology, mining, geo-physics, GIS, and related fields. Possible avenues for joint research, faculty and student exchanges, as well as dual degree programmes, were discussed during this productive session.

The final meeting of the visit took place at the Faculty of Engineering, where Dr Tanmoy Maity and Mri-tunjay Sharma met with Prof Lilantha Samaranayake, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Dr Panduka Neluwala, the Faculty representative for InRO, and Dr Isuru Dasanayake, De-partment representative for international activities.
