The Royal College Old Boys’ East Coast Foundation (RCOBECF) in New York, a vibrant alumni association of Royal College, has taken a significant step towards fostering academic excellence and global connectivity with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art conference room at the prestigious institution.

The new facility, equipped with cutting-edge technology, will serve as a hub for interactive teaching, video conferencing, and collaborative learning. The grand opening ceremony, held recently was graced by distinguished guests including President of RCOBECF Dr Sudath Rannulu, CEO of DiNi Communications Inc Prashanth Wijedasa, and Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.

In a collaborative effort between RCOBECF, DiNi Communications Inc, and the Sri Lanka Navy, the smart conference room was established to provide Royal College students with a modern and technologically advanced learning environment. The facility is equipped with high-definition video conferencing capabilities, interactive whiteboards, and advanced audio systems, enabling students to connect with experts and peers from around the world.

Dr Rannulu, in his inaugural address, emphasised the importance of such initiatives in nurturing the next generation of leaders. “This smart conference room is a testament to the commitment of RCOBECF to supporting Royal College and its students,” he said. “By providing them with access to cutting-edge technology and opportunities for global collaboration, we hope to inspire them to reach their full potential.” Prashanth Wijedasa, whose US-based company DiNi Communications Inc played a pivotal role in the project, expressed his pride in being part of such a meaningful endeavour. “Technology has the power to transform education, and we are delighted to have contributed to the creation of this state-of-the-art facility,” he said. “We believe that it will have a lasting impact on the academic and professional development of Royal College students.”

Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera highlighted the importance of partnerships between the military and educational institutions. “The Sri Lanka Navy is committed to supporting the development of Sri Lanka’s youth,” he said. “We are honoured to have been involved in this project and to have contributed to the creation of a facility that will benefit generations of Royal College students.”

The inauguration of the smart conference room marks a significant milestone for RCOBECF, which has been actively involved in charitable activities in Sri Lanka and the United States for over three decades. The foundation’s commitment to education and community development is evident in its various initiatives, including scholarships, mentorship programmes, and infrastructure projects.

As Royal College continues to evolve and adapt to the challenges of the 21st century, the smart conference room will serve as a valuable resource for students and faculty alike. By providing a platform for collaboration, innovation, and global engagement, the facility will help to ensure that Royal College remains at the forefront of education in Sri Lanka and beyond.
