Ex-MPs get three months to move out of homes
View(s):The Ministry of Public Administration has moved to re-acquire houses of ministers and state officials.
The Sunday Times learns that directives have been given by the ministry to lamwakers to vacate as many as 50 houses.
Public Administration Ministry secretary Pradeep Yasaratne told the Sunday timesthat they have given the relevant orders to vacate officials residences given by the ministries, but declined to elaborate.
Among these are some located in an apartment building in Bambalapitiya.
Some former MPs including those who occupied the Madiwela MPs housing complex have been given a three month period to vacate.
Former MP Nalin Banadara Jayamaha told the Sunday Times that he was given a three month grace period to vacate the house. He had planned to vacate the house in two weeks, he said.
Ratnapura District ex-MP Akila Ellawala told the Sunday Times that the official homes can be occupied until the parliamentary election.
Hambantota District former MP, Dilip Wedaarachchi also said the Madiwela houses can be occupied until parliamentary elections.
Puttalam District ex-MP, Hector Appuhami said that his belongings are at the Madiwela complex and that he would move out whenever he is notified.
