Jaishankar coming for talks with President

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is to visit Sri Lanka for talks with the new Anura Kumara Dissanayake administration next week.

The one-day visit is scheduled for next Friday (October 4).

The official visit comes in the unlikely event that the newly elected Sri Lankan President is to visit New Delhi. This has been a tradition of past Sri Lankan presidents after they were elected.

Dr. Jaishankar met Mr. Dissanayake prior to the elections in New Delhi.

During the campaign for the Indian elections in June this year and later, Dr. Jaishankar questioned the former Indian Congress government under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, conceding the islet of Katchchativu to Sri Lankan sovereignty.

Several Indian projects in the pipeline are expected to be discussed during the Indian minister’s one-day visit to Sri Lanka.
