The Mahaweli Authority has taken steps to empty the Polgolla reservoir due to maintenance work that occurs every two years at its sluice gates.
Water from the reservoir was released into the Victoria reservoir beginning on September 28, completely emptying the reservoir by the following morning (yesterday).
Technical Officer of the reservoir’s Control Room Kalpa Herath said that when the process of emptying began, the reservoir was at its full capacity, and 4.112 million cubic meters of water was released into the Victoria Reservoir.
As a result of the emptying of the Polgolla reservoir, the Mahaweli Authority has announced that the water supply will be disrupted from Saturday to Monday (midnight) in Kandy, Kondagama, Haragama, and surrounding areas, as well as the Mawanella area which receives water under the Kandy Water Supply Project.
