Jaffna pulled off a narrow 4-run win on Duckworth/Lewis Method against Galle in their National Super League Limited Over Tournament match played at the R. Premadsasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday. Electing to bat first, Galle put up a challenging total of 295 runs before they were bowled out by Jaffna with five deliveries remaining.

The star of the day for Galle was Sadeera Samarawickrama, who notched up 109 runs off 95 deliveries when his team had lost five batsmen for 74 by the 17th over. Samarawickrama played right around, hitting 12 boundaries and two sixes while putting on a stand of 135 runs with Sanoj Darshika, who faced 82 deliveries to contribute with a valuable and timely 67, inclusive of seven fours. Sandun Weerakkody, Isitha Wijesundara, Lahiru Madushanka and Eshan Malinga claimed two wickets each for Jaffna.

Chasing a challenging target of 296, Jaffna had to face the odds time to time, but managed to maintain a healthy run rate despite losing wickets at regular breaks. Hasitha Boyagoda cracked 64 off 63 deliveries, inclusive of nine fours and a six, while skipper Janith Liyanage contributed with 48 after facing 51 balls, inclusive of five fours and a six.

When play was stopped due to rain, Jaffna were 262 for the loss of seven wickets, with Isitha Wijesundara remaining unbeaten on 33 after facing 25 deliveries. He hit three boundaries and two sixes, making sure Jaffna were within the range of a win. The required score according to DLS read as 259 runs in 45 overs, which Jaffna had already surpassed.

The match between Kandy and Dambulla ended in a no result after the low scoring affair came to an abrupt end due to bad weather at Sooriyawewa. Put into bat first, Kandy were made to struggle before they were restricted by Dambulla bowlers to 185 with plenty of overs to spare.

After being struck early by pacemen Kasun Rajitha and Mohamed Shiraz, Kandy were brought down to 9 for the loss of three wickets in no time, as they were pushed further to 53 for the loss of five wickets by the 17th over. Kavin Bandara showed some resistance as he top scored for Kandy with a patient knock of 77 off 79 deliveries, hitting seven fours and a six. Low order batsman Wanuja Sahan held on in the other end to chip in with 28 after facing 40 balls and hitting four boundaries to take Kandy to a respectable total.

Allrounder Wanindu Hasaranga led the bowling onslaught and claimed three scalps, while Rajitha, Shiraz and Lakshan Sandakan picked two wickets each. When the game came to a complete halt, Dambulla were 49 for two in 10 overs with opener Nishan Madushka remaining unbeaten on 31 after facing 33 deliveries and hitting four boundaries and a six.
