John Keells emerge Merc 7s kings
Unstoppable John Keells ‘A’ triumphed in the Cup final of the Mercantile Rugby 7s Tournament, defeating CDB 27-0 in a one-sided game at the CR&FC ground in Longden Place yesterday. In the Cup semi-finals, John Keells ‘A’ displayed their dominance by beating Sampath Bank 29-0, while CDB secured their spot in the final with a 21-7 victory over Pearl Beach.
In other matches, Pearl Beach claimed the Plate Championship by overcoming Sampath Bank 38-12. Meanwhile, in the Shield Final, Moresand defeated Ceylinco VIP 21-5 to take home the title. In the Ladies’ Final, Sampath Bank faced off against CDB, while in the Bowl Final, John Keells ‘B’ went up against Brandix.
Earlier in the Shield quarter-finals, MAS Holdings ‘A’ put on an impressive performance against NTB, winning 41-7. Ceylinco edged past Mercantile Investment 17-14, Moresand triumphed over Foresight Engineering 29-5, and HNB defeated Commercial Credit 36-7.
