The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has indicted an engineer attached to the Health Ministry’s Biomedical Engineering Division on charges of causing a loss to the government in the procurement of 35 surgical lamps.

The accused, Subasinghe Arachchige Janapriya Karunathilaka has been indicted on corruption charges by the CIABOC. The indictment states that the government had suffered a loss when procuring these surgical lamps owing to corruption that took place in the tender process. This was due to the move to ignore lower priced bids.

The court is due to issue notice to the accused ordering him to present himself in court.
