Monk donates rations to schoolgirl who confessed to drinking water with sugar

Chief incumbent of the Sandagiri Maha Seya in Kandy, Ven Gangasiripura Dhammaloka Thera has provided dry rations worth Rs 20,000 to a schoolgirl who was at the centre of a viral video where she confessed to drinking only water mixed with sugar for breakfast as she had nothing to eat.
The video of the student from a school in Katugastota had been taken by her class teacher. The video, shot on World Children’s Day, showed the girl telling the teacher that her mother could not afford to give her breakfast and as such, she was drinking water mixed with sugar to avoid gastritis. She also confessed to not having anything to eat for lunch.
The girl’s family had fallen on hard times after the death of her father, and her mother had been unable to find permanent employment to support her. After learning of the plight of the girl, the Thera had managed to locate the girl and her mother through the Katugastota Police and had visited them. He had gifted the dry rations to them and had also pledged to build a house for them after finding a suitable plot of land with government help.
