Happiness in a cup of coffee
A perfect cup of coffee is born with the distinct art in the relationship between the ground coffee beans, the sophisticated machines and the skilled baristas who serve them. In a country traditionally known for tea, the ritual of coffee drinking is gaining traction, as evident in the thriving coffee shops.
With an impressive expansion to 42 outlets in just a year, Barista’s has streamlined its procurement, production, and distribution processes in Sri Lanka by opening a new state-of-the-art facility, the “Happiness Hub,” in Peliyagoda. The facility acts as the main centre for sourcing, food preparation, storage, and distribution for Barista’s wide-ranging network of cafés. It boasts easy access to all parts of Sri Lanka, enabling efficient distribution.
“The Happiness Hub is a key move for us as we work on improving our operations, keeping our products consistent, and fuelling our growth. It allows us to give meticulous attention to operational detail, ensuring timely service and the highest quality of products,” said Barista’s CEO Dilupa Pathirana.
“By bringing procurement, production, and distribution together in one place, we can maintain our high standards while also taking advantage of cost savings. The freshness of our ingredients is enhanced by state-of-the-art storage facilities, which in turn elevates every cup of coffee. Our baristas, all with NVQ Level 3 qualifications are trained in-house to ensure that each brew is exceptional.”
The Happiness Hub also includes a training school where staff gain essential skills in food preparation, logistics, and café management.
Barista’s has also tapped into the social media culture by turning coffee moments into shareable experiences. Talking about the elements that need to work hand in hand for a business to thrive, Dilupa said, “Every cup of coffee at Barista tells a story. It’s a delicate balance of time, investment, and passion that transforms simple ingredients into an extraordinary experience. The atmosphere in each outlet reflects this artistry, with a tech-savvy vibe that invites customers to relax, work remotely, or socialise with friends.”
Exciting new additions to their menu like the peanut butter and jelly croissant and the pol sambal and cheese sandwich with dried shrimp, as well as new beverage additions such as the peanut butter shake and Spanish latte, keep customers coming back.
