All-Island Kandy Open from October 12
The All-Island Kandy Open Badminton Championship, organised by the Central Province Badminton Association (CPBA), an affiliation of Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB), will be held from October 12 to 19 at the Provincial Council Sports Complex in Rajawella, Digana near Kandy. Rated as an SLB Grade I tournament, the All-Island Kandy Open Badminton Championship will consist of five different categories — Open, Junior, Junior Novices, Senior and Plate.
Events will be held for men and women under Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles in the Open segment, as well as for boys and girls from age categories of Under-11 to Under-19, who will compete under Junior category. Singles and Doubles events will be held under Junior Novices category for age categories of Under-11 to Under-15. The Senior category will include different age groups from Over-30 to Over-70, who will compete in Singles and Doubles and a combined category of 110+ in Doubles. The losing competitors in Men’s and Women’s Singles Open will be drafted to the Plate segment, creating a competitive environment during the eight days of the tournament.
Winners of the tournament are set to receive cash awards besides trophies, medals and certificates, with the able sponsorship of by McFoil, Mobil, 3M, LiNing and CAG, who have been prodigious contributors to the growth of badminton in Sri Lanka.
