Over 60 shooters will join the action at the NSSF Trap National Championship 2024, conducted annually by the National Shooting Sports Federation of Sri Lanka (NSSF) at the Clay Target Shooting Club of Colombo, Payagala Range from October 10 to 13.

Shooters representing Clay Target Shooting Club of Colombo, Negombo, Magnum, Puttalam, Siyane, Hill Country, Army Small Arms, Scorpions and Wayamba rifle shooting clubs are expected to vie in this competition, which will also serve as a trial for updating the national pool and for future international events.

Winners of the Junior, Open, Masters and Ladies will be awarded with medals and certificates, as well as for the first three positions of the Overall and Team segments. On the first three days all participants will be allocated slots to shoot two rounds of 25 clays, for a total of 50 clays. Participants with Top 18 of the first 50 clays will be then detailed to shoot three more rounds of 25 clays, to shoot a total of 125 clays commencing from the third day, October 12.

“In case if there are multiple athletes with the same score to qualify for the Top 18, a ‘tie break’ will be conducted as per ISSF competition regulations. The top six shooters of the 125 clays will then move on to shoot a maximum of 50 clays at the finals as per ISSF format. Any further tie breaks will be conducted as per ISSF rules for Olympic Trap,” clarified NSSF General Secretary, Pradeep Edirisinghe.

NSSF will allow only firearms of 12 gauge with restrictions in over-and-under, side-by-side and semi-automatic during the competition. The entire competition will be conducted in accordance to the latest ISSF riles and NSSF competition rules due to limitation of cartridges and will be open to only NSSF member clubs and affiliations.

Under the leadership of NSSF President Shirantha Peiris, the four-day competition will be conducted with the able assistance of Competition Director Mohan Gilbert and Assistant Competition Director Dinesh Lionel. The four-day competition will wind up with the awards ceremony, which will be followed soon after the final on the final day at the Payagala Shooting Range.
