Sasanka, Danal steer Ace Capital to U-23 title
Sasanka Nirmal and Danal Hemananda came to the rescue of Ace Capital with a crucial partnership that led them to a comfortable first-innings win over Moors SC in the SLC Major Under-23 2-day Tournament final, concluded at Colts ground yesterday.
This first innings victory was enough for Ace Capital to clinch the title, marking their second major win in two months, having previously secured the Major Club Limited Overs title defeating CCC in the final.
Starting the day at 110 for 5 in response to Moors’ 233, Ace Capital faced early trouble, losing two quick wickets for just 19 runs and finding themselves at 129 for 8. It was then that Sasanka and Danal stepped in to turn the tide.
Sasanka played a stellar innings, remaining unbeaten on 106 off 167 balls, including nine boundaries and two sixes. He was well-supported by Danal, who scored 70 runs with seven boundaries and a six. Together, they forged a match-winning partnership of 166 runs for the ninth wicket, enabling Ace Capital to finish their innings at a formidable 317 runs.
Ravishan de Silva of Moors was named the tournament’s best batsman, while Vihas Thewmika of Tamil Union received the best bowler award. Yesith Rupasinghe of Moors was honoured as the man of the tournament, while Sasanka Nirmal was named the man of the match for his outstanding performance in the final.
