Asia-Pacific Digital Talent Summit 2024 discusses future digital talent

The 2024 Asia-Pacific Digital Talent Summit Held in Nanning, located in the South of Guangxi, China provided a crucial platform to discuss the future of digital talent development in the rapidly evolving the regional digital economy.

“The summit concluded with 17 groups of student performance showcasing their cultural heritage at the Departure Ceremony. Dr. Piti Srisangnam, Executive Director of ASEAN Foundation; Datuk Dr Habibah Abdul Rahim, Director of SEAMEO Secretariat; Mr Simon Lin, the president of Huawei Asia-Pacific joined the students to ignite the roadmap, marking the start of an exciting and fruitful journey,” a Huawei media release said. The summit brought together government leaders including the Secretary-General of ASEAN, the Minister of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education of Brunei Darussalam, industry experts, professionals from the academy, and 130+ young talents from 18 countries across the region to foster collaboration, innovation, and digital growth for a connected, digital and intelligent future.

“After the summit, students embarked on an immersive tour of Huawei’s campuses in Shenzhen and Dongguan, where they participated in digital learning classes and studied ICT technologies and applications. They also competed in the Tech4Good Regional Semi-Final.” the release added.

ASEAN Secretary-General H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, In his welcome speech, highlighted the importance of digital talent in driving growth and innovation in the region. He noted the collaboration between Huawei and the ASEAN Foundation, offering over 130 young talents a one-week tour of China.

Distinguished guests and speakers were warmly welcomed onto the stage with the ASEAN-way handshake, a gesture symbolising the commitment to strengthen regional unity.

In line with this vision, Huawei Asia-Pacific’s President, Simon Lin, emphasised the company’s digital talent program based on partnership, commitment, and youth empowerment, which has developed over 200,000 digital talents through initiatives like Huawei ICT Academy, Tech4City competition, and Digital Talent Summit, the release said.

At the summit, Huawei together with Prince of Songkla University (PSU), launched the “PSU ICT Talent Development and Innovation Center”, which is the first of its kind in APAC, expected to benefit students and the broader community by driving digital transformation in the education sector and beyond.” the release said.
