An initiative by the Rotaract Club of Edith Cowan University
View(s):Access to medical attention should be available to every individual, yet is not always accessible. Thus, resonating with one of the main pillars of Rotaract, ‘yDohdf, dal’ was a health camp conducted on the 29th of September, at Ananda Madhya Maha Vidyalaya in Elpitiya, with the objective of serving the community.
This initiative by the Rotaract Club of Edith Cowan University, Sri Lanka, in partnership with Lanka Hospitals and Wickramarachci Opticians, sought to bring medical expertise to the community of Elpitiya. The dire need for medical attention of this nature was evident with the attendance of over 800 individuals including Samanera Theros of Pirivena and students from multiple Dhamma schools in Elpitiya.
The Elpitiya community received comprehensive checkups including ECG checks, cancer screenings, eye and hearing tests in addition to consultations with doctors, opticians and a dieticians. This was possible through the combined effort of teams from Lanka Hospitals and Wickramarachchi Opticians whose medical expertise was instrumental in the successful completion of the project.
The Rotaract Club of ECU was able to further impact this community by providing the participants with the medication prescribed and reading glasses free of charge. This was done through the support of sponsors namely, ECU, CBL, ANetworks, Oacianic Knitters, Pepper Street, Indoco and Torrent Pharma whose support for the community was reflected through their generosity.
