International Olympiad in China showcases talents of Lankan school students
View(s):The International Olympiad, held in China from October 1 to 6, marked its 21st edition and showcased the talents of Lankan school students, many of whom hailed from remote areas far from the capital.
Organised through a collaborative effort between the Mathematics and Science Branches and the Provincial Education Departments of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, the Olympiad aims to enhance high-level thinking skills among students by providing training at regional, provincial, and national levels, culminating in annual examinations.
This year, Lankan students achieved remarkable success, competing against numerous countries worldwide in mathematics and science, with 13 out of 20 participants winning medals: 1 silver and 10 bronze in mathematics, along with 2 bronze in science.
This impressive performance positioned Sri Lanka among the top medal winners, surpassing competitors such as India, Korea, China, and Singapore. -NA
