The Sri Lanka Human Capital Summit (SLHCS 2024) leadership panel has called for a comprehensive overhaul of the education system, with a focus on practical skills, continuous development, and talent retention.

The potential of the growing startup ecosystem was highlighted as a way to better align talent with industry needs, improve retention, and attract investment.

Key recommendations include investing in AI and tech education, aligning IT education with industry demands, and offering flexible learning formats to tackle issues such as brain drain and high salary expectations in the IT sector.

Strengthening industry-academia partnerships and increasing female workforce participation were also emphasised to better match education with workforce demands. Additionally, the need for global talent recruitment was stressed, advocating for improved visa policies and supportive government measures to attract skilled professionals. (NA)
