Fearless and faithful, she lived her life

Magantha Sapramadu

My cousin Magantha,
who passed away peacefully last Sunday, was a remarkable person. Her abiding faith gave her the courage to face illness, adversity and loss with
equanimity. She took all the lemons life threw at her and made lemonade.

When the doctors detected a narrowed aorta and advised open heart surgery, she promptly refused saying that all her earthly responsibilities were done and she would accept God’s will, no matter what. He decided to grant her seven years of contentment, when she was given only a few months to live.

Similarly, when COVID struck, she refrained from taking even a single vaccine, saying, “I’m covered in the blood of our Lord!” And so she was. When all around her were afflicted, she never had to succumb to even a common cold.

She was blessed with a keen mind, being a mathematician, who taught Maths at St. Bridget’s Convent. Many are the students who were overwhelmed on hearing the news of her demise.

She was the mother of two unconditionally loving children Manoj and Anushka, mother-in-law of Champika and Presanjith and doting grandmother of two handsome grandsons, Chanath and Malith. They were her pride and joy. Her husband Anton predeceased her after a long and happy marriage.

Hers was a life lived to
the full, in unswerving faith and joy! May the turf lie
gently over you! I know for sure, you’re with the Lord whom you adored.
Requiescat en pace!

Dada, it’s been a year since you left us. You were so much a part of our lives that not a day passes when we don’t remember you. It’s a void that will never be filled.

Rest in peace darling Dad, now that you are free from all pain and suffering. We will always love you.
