Mikirhan and Gamage win School Games marathon event

J. Mikirhan and G.N.N. Gamage won the 21km Marathon Boy’s and Girl’s events of the All-Island School Games 2024 held in Dambulla last weekend. Mikirhan of Puwasenkulam Maha Vidyalaya braced the tape first among boys runners, as J. Vidushan of Muththiyankandu of Tamil Maha Vidyalaya finished at second place ahead of D.M.I.D.M. Gamage of Welimada Central, who finished at third.

IN the girls’ event, G.N.N. Gamage of Alapatha Maha Vidyalaya won the 21 kilometre run as T.M.C. Dananjani of Yahala Arawa Maha Vidyalaya, Welimada finished at second, followed by W.W.R.R.B.N.D. Dissarathne of Subasen Maha Vidyalaya, Yapahuwa at third.

Nestlé Nestomalt partnered with the Ministry of Education to organise the Marathon event of the All-Island School Games 2024 that was held in Dambulla, culminating at the Dambulla Municipal Council ground.

The much-awaited annual event witnessed the participation of top school athletes from across the island with over 300 runners from all provinces taking part in the half marathon of 21km, and a display marathon of 5km, which was held with 500 participants.
