School named after SWRD, then Keheliya to be renamed
View(s):Trade unions representing teachers have called the new Governor of the Central Province Sarath Abeykoon to remove politicians’ names given to schools.
They pointed out that several schools in the Kandy, Kundasale, Ududumbara, Alawathugoda and Minipe area have been named after politicians.
The unions claimed that most of these provincial councils had received buildings and facilities under the budget allocated to them, but politicians have gone on to use their own names. As a result, at least one school known as Keheliya Rambukwella Model Primary School in Kundasale is to be changed to Kundasale Rajakeeya Prathamika Vidyalaya with approval of the Governor. This school was originally known as the S W R D Bandaranaike Vidyalaya after being formed in 1939.
