‘Elegance in Motion’: Russian Classical Ballet Examinations 2024

Russian Ballet is renowned for its artistry, technical precision and dramatic storytelling. Originating in the Imperial courts, it flourished in the 19th and 20th centuries, showcasing masterpieces like ‘Swan Lake’ and ‘The Nutcracker’ at iconic companies such as the Bolshoi and Mariinsky, where they have continued to influence global dance/ ballet with their rich heritage.

This lovely ‘elegance in motion’ dance form has gained a notable presence in Sri Lanka, captivating audiences with its grace and meticulousness. Russian Cultural Centre (RCC) in Colombo promotes this magnificent dance form, often featuring performances and workshops by visiting Russian ballet artistes especially under the guidance of Maria Popova, First Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka and Director of the Russian House in Colombo since the year 2022.

The Russian Classical Ballet Examinations organised by the RCC is known by many, in and out of Sri Lanka. Commencing the examinations with just 4 little Ballerinas under the guidance of Mrs. Galina Pleshakova as the Founding Ballet instructor of the School, Buddhapriya Ramanayaka, Chief Executive Officer and Chandi Aluvihare, Cultural Officer as the Ballet School coordinator since 2001 to date.

This October, for the 23rd consecutive year, the Examinations are prepared for over 1000 students from all around Sri Lanka by this year under the guidance of 10 more experienced Ballet teachers, Samantha Samararathne, Niluka Madurawala, Radeesha Bodiyabadu and Shenaalie Dias as the Senior instructors along with Kavishka Prematilake, Vihini Samarasekara, Indeevara Miltaso, Nikini Fonseka and Ovini Dissanayake as the Junior teachers and Ashini Madumali as an Assistant Teacher.

‘As we step closer to the Classical Ballet Examinations 2024 from the 20th to the 26th of October, we look forward to seeing another spectacular series of the examination performances by our very own, exceptionally talented Ballerinas’ commented CEO Buddhapriya Ramanayaka.
