More than 55,000 registered voters, 48 centres for Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha elections

More than 55,000 voters are registered to poll for next Saturday’s Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha elections, Galle District Deputy Election Commissioner W.R. Vijaya Kumara said.

The election will be conducted in 48 centres.

A total of 1576 postal voting applications were received and the postal polling was held last Monday while those who could not vote on the first day were given another opportunity to vote on Friday at the District Secretariat office Galle, the Deputy Election Commissioner said.

A total of eight recognised political parties and one independent group are contesting the elections. They are Janasetha Peramuna, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Podujana Eksath Peramuna, People’s United Freedom Alliance, National People’s Power, Jathika Janatha Pakshaya, Dewana Parapura Party and the
independent group.

More than 600 officers will be deployed for
election duty with the election set to take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
