Scholarship fund launched to continue the legacy of Ven. Galboda Gnanissara Thera
View(s):The Board of Trustees of the Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo, along with its student monks, has established a memorial trust in honour of the late Venerable Galboda Siri Gnanissara Thera—the chief incumbent of the temple until his passing on August 2— to continue his legacy of supporting the educational journey of children from underprivileged and low-income families.

Named the Venerable Galboda Siri Gnanissara Memorial Scholarship Trust Fund, the initiative is spearheaded by Master Shi Fa Zhao, the chief incumbent of the Golden Pagoda Buddhist Temple and the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in Singapore.
To start the fund, Master Shi Fa Zhao has made a generous donation of five hundred thousand dollars.
Modelled as a counterpart to the Mahapola Scholarship Trust, the memorial fund will offer financial assistance to poor students preparing for GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level Examinations and students pursuing vocational studies in technical colleges.
The fund will also support students aspiring to be entrepreneurs by providing them with financial aid to develop the necessary skills. The initiative will reflect the late monk’s passion for vocational training and youth creativity.
The Fund will assist school libraries and promote innovations, while ensuring that students looking to improve their creative and academic capabilities have the tools and opportunities needed to succeed.
The trustees believe the fund will be a lasting tribute to the late Thera’s vision and his contributions to education and youth empowerment.
