The College of Anaesthesiologists and Intensivists of Sri Lanka (COAISL) will hold the Annual International Congress of the Faculty of Pain Medicine on October 26 and 27.

This virtual congress on the theme ‘Path to Pain-Free Living: Together, Forging Ahead!’ will see an exchange of views among renowned experts.

It will be chaired by Dr Roshana Mallawaarachchi and Dr Jayathi Subasinghe, with the support of the Faculty of Pain Medicine President Dr Champika Sujeewani and COAISL President Dr Vinodini Wanigasekera.

The President of the International Association for the Study of Pain, Prof Andrew Rice from the United Kingdom will be the chief guest, while 20 eminent local and international speakers will share their expertise at the congress.

With significant opportunities for improvement in pain management, Sri Lanka is set to benefit from the introduction and expansion of labour pain management using the gold-standard epidural technique, said a spokesperson, explaining that the trend toward ultrasound-guided and interventional procedures is also revolutionising the field by enhancing both the quality of care and patient satisfaction.

This congress aims to equip Sri Lankan healthcare professionals, as well as the public, with cutting-edge knowledge and practices in pain management.

It will feature a nurses’ workshop in both Sinhala and Tamil and an ultrasound-guided regional analgesia workshop, which will be supported by a team of Indian professionals.

An award will be presented to the Most Inspiring Pain Clinic in Sri Lanka, recognising outstanding contributions to pain management.
